Isaiah 59:1

Listen to this article

“Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:”

Isaiah 59:1 (KJV) says: “Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.”

This verse is part of a larger passage in the book of Isaiah where the prophet is describing the sinful state of the people of Israel and the consequences of their transgressions. In this particular verse, Isaiah assures the people that despite their dire circumstances, God’s ability to save and hear their prayers is not limited.

Here are a few key points to consider in this verse:

God’s power to save:The verse begins with the phrase “Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save.” This statement emphasizes that God’s ability to deliver His people from their troubles is not diminished or limited in any way. It reassures the Israelites, who may have been feeling helpless and hopeless, that God is fully capable of intervening and bringing about their salvation.

God’s attentiveness to prayers:The second part of the verse states, “neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.” This highlights God’s unwavering ability to hear the cries and prayers of His people. Despite their sinful state, God is not deaf to their pleas for help. He is always attentive and ready to respond to those who seek Him.

This verse serves as a reminder of God’s limitless power and His willingness to listen to His people. It offers hope and encouragement to those who may feel overwhelmed by their circumstances or burdened by their own sins.

In a broader context, this verse also points to the need for repentance and turning back to God. The preceding verses in Isaiah 59 describe the people’s transgressions and the consequences they face as a result. However, despite their sins, God’s hand is still capable of saving and His ear is open to their cries for mercy.

Overall, Isaiah 59:1 emphasizes the unchanging nature of God’s power and His desire to hear and save His people. It encourages us to approach Him in prayer and seek His deliverance, knowing that He is able to intervene in our lives and bring about the salvation we need.
