Isaiah 6:8

Posted on 18 May at 15:07

“Also, I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

Context:Understanding the background and context of a Bible verse is essential. In Isaiah 6, the prophet Isaiah has a vision of God’s holiness and glory in the temple. He sees the Lord sitting on His throne, surrounded by seraphim. The seraphim worship God, declaring His holiness, and the temple shakes with His presence. It is in this awe-inspiring encounter that Isaiah hears the voice of the Lord asking for a messenger.

The Voice of the Lord:Isaiah hears the voice of the Lord asking, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” This question reveals God’s desire for someone to fulfil a specific mission or task. In this context, God is seeking a willing servant to be His messenger.

Isaiah’s Response:When Isaiah hears the question, he responds by saying, “Here am I; send me.” This statement demonstrates Isaiah’s readiness and willingness to be used by God. It reveals his humility, obedience, and submission to God’s call. Instead of shying away or making excuses, Isaiah offers himself to be the one to go on behalf of God.

Application:Isaiah’s response serves as an inspiring example for believers today. It encourages us to be willing and available to respond to God’s call in our lives. It reminds us that God is seeking those who are willing to be His messengers, ambassadors, and instruments of His will on earth.

  • God’s Call:The passage also highlights God’s desire to work through human agents to accomplish His purposes. God could have sent an angel or used any other means, but He chose to involve Isaiah in His plan. This reveals God’s desire to partner with His people, to use their unique gifts, talents, and willingness to serve Him and fulfil His purposes.
  • Commissioning:Following Isaiah’s response, God commissions him and reveals the nature of the mission he will undertake. In the subsequent verses (Isaiah 6:9-13), God instructs Isaiah to deliver a message of judgment to the people of Israel. Despite the difficulty of the task and the people’s anticipated resistance, Isaiah faithfully fulfils his calling.

Overall, Isaiah 6:8 teaches us the importance of readiness, willingness, and obedience in responding to God’s call. It encourages us to be attentive to His voice, to offer ourselves for His service, and to trust Him to equip and empower us for the tasks He sets before us.

Please note that Bible interpretation can vary among individuals and denominations, so it’s always important to seek additional resources and consult trusted spiritual leaders to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Scriptures.
