Listen to this article

“That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.”

Context:The book of Isaiah is a prophetic book in the Old Testament. It contains messages from God to the people of Israel, both warning them of judgment and offering them hope of restoration. In Isaiah 66, the prophet describes the future glory of Zion and the establishment of God’s kingdom.

Symbolism:In verse 11, the imagery used is that of a nursing mother and her child. The breasts represent comfort, nourishment, and sustenance. The “her” in this verse can refer to Zion, symbolizing the blessings and consolation that God provides to His people.

Spiritual nourishment:The verse speaks of being satisfied and delighted with the abundance of God’s glory. This signifies that God’s people will experience spiritual satisfaction and joy in His presence. It suggests that God’s blessings and consolations are abundant and can fully satisfy the deepest needs of our souls.

God’s provision:Just as a nursing mother provides nourishment and comfort to her child, God offers His people divine consolation and care. This imagery emphasizes the tender and loving nature of God, who meets our needs and brings us comfort in times of distress.

Abundance of God’s glory:The phrase “the abundance of her glory” indicates the magnificence and greatness of God’s presence. It points to the overwhelming splendor and majesty that will be revealed when God establishes His kingdom fully. It also suggests that God’s blessings are not meager or limited but are overflowing and abundant.

Application:As believers, we can draw encouragement from this verse. It reminds us that God is our ultimate source of comfort, nourishment, and satisfaction. When we seek Him, we can experience His abundant blessings and find delight in His presence.
