In Isaiah 39, King Hezekiah receives envoys from Babylon who come to inquire about the miraculous sign of his recovery from a life-threatening illness. Hezekiah, eager to display his wealth and accomplishments, shows the envoys all his treasures and the resources of his kingdom. However, the prophet Isaiah warns Hezekiah that the Babylonians will eventually conquer Judah and carry away all these treasures and even some of his own descendants to Babylon.
