Jeremiah 26:2

Listen to this article

“Thus saith the Lord; Stand in the court of the Lord’s house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the Lord’s house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word.”

Jeremiah 26:2 is part of a message from God given to the prophet Jeremiah during a time of great national crisis for the Kingdom of Judah. It serves as an instruction for Jeremiah to deliver a specific message to the people.

At this point in history, Judah was facing the impending judgement of God due to their persistent disobedience and idolatry. Jeremiah, as a prophet of God, was called upon to deliver God’s message to the people, urging them to repent and turn back to Him.

In this verse, God commands Jeremiah to stand in the court of the Lord’s house, which refers to the temple in Jerusalem, and speak to all the cities of Judah. The people from various cities would gather at the temple to worship, so this was a significant opportunity for Jeremiah to address a wide audience.

God emphasizes that Jeremiah must faithfully deliver all the words that He commands him to speak and not diminish or withhold any part of the message. This instruction highlights the importance of complete obedience and faithfulness in conveying God’s message, even if it is unpopular or challenging.

By instructing Jeremiah to deliver the message without diminishing a word, God emphasizes His desire for His people to fully hear and understand His warnings and calls for repentance. It underscores the severity of the situation and the urgency of the people’s response.

As we continue reading the subsequent verses in Jeremiah 26, we learn that Jeremiah faithfully delivers God’s message to the people, warning them of the impending destruction of Jerusalem if they do not repent. Unfortunately, his message is met with opposition and rejection, and Jeremiah faces severe persecution for speaking the truth.

Jeremiah’s obedience in faithfully delivering God’s message, despite the opposition and personal cost, serves as a powerful example of the prophet’s dedication to his calling and God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His word through His chosen servants.

Overall, Jeremiah 26:2 teaches us the importance of faithfully delivering God’s message without compromise or omission, even in the face of opposition or adversity. It reminds us of the need for repentance and obedience to God’s commands, as well as the consequences that can result from persistent disobedience.
