Jeremiah 32:19

Listen to this article

“Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”

Context:Jeremiah 32 is part of a passage where the prophet Jeremiah is imprisoned by King Zedekiah of Judah. Despite the dire circumstances, God instructs Jeremiah to buy a field in Anathoth, which symbolises hope and restoration for the future of Israel. In this verse, Jeremiah praises God’s wisdom, power, and justice.

God’s Great Counsel:The verse begins by acknowledging God’s greatness in counsel. This means that God possesses infinite wisdom and understanding. He has perfect knowledge of all things and is able to provide guidance and direction to His people. As believers, we can trust in God’s wisdom to lead us on the right path and make wise decisions.

God’s Mighty Works:The verse continues by affirming God’s might in His works. This refers to God’s power to accomplish His plans and purposes. Throughout the Bible, we see evidence of God’s mighty works, from creation to the miracles performed for His people. God’s power is not limited by human limitations, and He is capable of doing great things beyond our imagination.

God’s Omniscience:The verse further declares that God’s eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men. This highlights God’s omniscience, meaning He is all-knowing. God is aware of every action, motive, and intention of every individual. Nothing escapes His attention. This should encourage us to live in reverence and fear of God, knowing that our deeds and thoughts are known to Him.

God’s Justice:The verse concludes by emphasising that God gives every individual according to their ways and the fruit of their doings. This speaks of God’s justice. He rewards or punishes people based on their actions and conduct. God is fair and impartial in His judgment, and His justice is ultimately fulfilled. It reminds us of the importance of living righteous lives and being accountable for our actions.

Overall, Jeremiah 32:19 is a powerful declaration of God’s wisdom, power, omniscience, and justice. It reminds us of the attributes of God that we can trust in and rely upon. It encourages us to seek God’s counsel, acknowledge His mighty works, live with the awareness of His presence, and strive to walk in righteousness.
