“Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?”

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on Verse: “Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, wilt thou not hearken unto me?” (Jeremiah 38:15, KJV)

Context:Jeremiah was a prophet of God who was called to deliver a message of warning and judgment to the people of Judah. During his ministry, Jeremiah faced opposition and persecution from the political leaders and false prophets of his time. In Jeremiah 38, we find Jeremiah imprisoned in a cistern for his prophecies against Jerusalem.

Courageous Prophetic Ministry:– Jeremiah’s conversation with Zedekiah reveals his unwavering commitment to speaking the truth despite the risks involved. He understood that proclaiming the word of God might lead to his own death, yet he was willing to fulfill his calling as a prophet.

– As believers, we are called to be faithful in sharing God’s truth, even if it means facing opposition or persecution. Like Jeremiah, we should rely on God’s strength and courageously speak His Word, trusting in His ultimate protection and guidance.

Trusting in God’s Sovereignty:– Jeremiah’s question to Zedekiah reflects his awareness of the king’s tendency to ignore or reject his counsel. Despite this, Jeremiah was willing to offer his advice, knowing that the final decision rested with the king.

– This passage reminds us of the importance of trusting in God’s sovereignty. Jeremiah recognized that his role was to faithfully deliver God’s message, while leaving the outcomes in God’s hands. Likewise, we should faithfully obey and trust in God, regardless of the response or outcome.

Application to our Lives:– Like Jeremiah, we may encounter situations where speaking the truth might lead to personal risks or rejection. However, we are called to be bold witnesses for Christ, sharing the Gospel and living out God’s principles in our lives.

– It is crucial to remember that our ultimate trust is in God’s sovereignty. We should seek His guidance and wisdom in all situations, trusting that He will work out His purposes and bring about His plans, even in the face of opposition or uncertainty.

– This verse also serves as a reminder to pray for our leaders. We should intercede for those in authority, asking God to grant them wisdom and discernment to make righteous decisions.

Further Study:– To gain a deeper understanding of Jeremiah’s ministry and the historical context, consider reading the entire book of Jeremiah.

– Reflect on other instances in the Bible where prophets faced opposition or persecution for speaking God’s truth. Examples include Elijah, Daniel, and John the Baptist.

– Meditate on verses that encourage courage and trust in God, such as Joshua 1:9, Psalm 27:1, and Isaiah 41:10.

Remember, the Bible is rich in wisdom and guidance. Take time to study and reflect on God’s Word, allowing it to shape and transform your life.
