Moreouer Ieremiah sayd vnto all the people, and to all the women; Heare the word of the Lord, all Iudah, that are in the land of Egypt. Jeremiah 44:24 (KJV)

The book of Jeremiah is a prophetic work in the Old Testament that records the messages delivered by the prophet Jeremiah to the people of Judah. At the time of this oracle Judah had turned away from God, embraced idolatry, and persisted in disobedience. God called Jeremiah to confront the nation with its sins and to warn of the impending judgment that would follow if repentance did not occur.

Jeremiah 44:24 belongs to a larger section in which the prophet addresses those who had fled the Babylonian invasion and taken refuge in Egypt. While seeking safety, the exiles continued to worship false gods and ignored the commands of the Lord. The verse serves as a prelude to a stern warning about their persistent idolatry.

The audience of this proclamation is explicitly described as “all the people, to the men, to the women, and to all the people which took part in the sacrifice.” By naming men, women, and those involved in sacrificial rites, Jeremiah underscores that every segment of the community—especially those directly participating in idolatrous worship—must hear the divine message.

The phrase “Hear the word of the Lord” emphasizes that Jeremiah is not speaking on his own authority but delivering a message directly from God. The divine origin of the words gives them weight and demands serious attention from the listeners.

The address “all Judah that are in the land of Egypt” makes clear that the warning is directed toward the Judahite diaspora in Egypt, reminding them that geographic distance does not exempt them from God’s judgment. Subsequent verses reveal the severity of the punishment that will follow their refusal to repent.

Overall, this verse highlights the urgency and authority of Jeremiah’s prophetic message. It calls the people to listen to God’s word, to recognize the seriousness of their sin, and to turn back to obedience. The passage also stresses that God’s judgment is not confined to a single location; even in Egypt the people are accountable for their actions and will face the consequences of their disobedience.
