Listen to this article

They shall cut downe her forrest, saith the Lord, though it cannot be searched, because they are more then the grashoppers, and are innumerable. Jeremiah 46:23 (KJV)

Divine Judgment:

The verse begins with the declaration, “They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD.” Here, “her” refers to Egypt, and “forest” symbolizes Egypt’s military strength, resources, and defenses. The Lord announces His intention to bring destruction upon Egypt, reflecting the principle of divine judgment in which God holds nations accountable for their actions.

Unsearchable Devastation:

The phrase “though it cannot be searched” emphasizes the extensive and immeasurable nature of the devastation that will come upon Egypt. It suggests that the destruction will be so thorough and complete that it cannot be fully comprehended or investigated, indicating the magnitude of God’s judgment and the inescapable consequences of Egypt’s sins.

Innumerable Enemies:

The clause “because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable” shifts focus to the invading forces that God will use to execute His judgment. The imagery of grasshoppers, known for swarming in massive numbers, portrays the overwhelming force that will be brought against Egypt, illustrating the vast number of enemies that will participate in the judgment.

Overall Message:

Jeremiah 46:23 conveys Egypt’s impending destruction due to its sins and God’s righteous judgment. It highlights both the inexorable nature of the devastation and the overwhelming number of adversaries involved. As the drafts stress, biblical passages should be studied in context; examining the surrounding verses and the broader message of Jeremiah provides a more comprehensive understanding of this prophecy within the larger narrative of God’s dealings with nations.
