Jeremiah 49:14

Listen to this article

“I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.”

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on Jeremiah 49:14 (KJV) says, “I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.”

Context:To understand Jeremiah 49:14 better, it is important to consider its context within the book of Jeremiah. The prophet Jeremiah delivered this prophecy concerning the judgment against the nation of Edom. Edom was a neighboring nation of ancient Israel, and they were descendants of Esau, Jacob’s brother. The prophecy in Jeremiah 49 describes the impending destruction of Edom as a result of their pride, arrogance, and their mistreatment of the Israelites during times of distress.

Divine Revelation:The verse begins with the statement, “I have heard a rumor from the LORD.” This indicates that the prophecy is not merely Jeremiah’s own words, but a message directly from God. God reveals His plans and purposes to His prophets, and Jeremiah is conveying this revelation to the people of Edom.

The Ambassador and the Heathen:The verse continues by mentioning an ambassador who is sent to the heathen. This ambassador can be understood as a messenger representing God’s authority, delivering a warning to the nations surrounding Edom. The heathen, in this context, refers to the various nations that were called to gather together against Edom.

Gather Ye Together:The command to “Gather ye together” implies a call to action, summoning the nations to assemble their armies and unite against Edom. This indicates that God’s judgment is imminent and that Edom will face the consequences of their actions.

Rise Up to the Battle:The final part of the verse states, “and rise up to the battle.” This signifies that the assembled nations are to engage in warfare against Edom. It portrays a scene of conflict and destruction, as the nations respond to God’s call and execute His judgment upon Edom.

Overall, Jeremiah 49:14 serves as a warning to Edom of the impending judgment they would face for their mistreatment of Israel and their own sinful actions. It emphasizes God’s sovereignty and His authority over the nations, as well as His commitment to justice. This verse highlights the consequences of pride, disobedience, and mistreatment of others, reminding us of the importance of humility, righteousness, and obedience to God’s commands.
