Jeremiah 5:4

O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.”

Here, Jeremiah describes a dire situation in Jerusalem. He calls upon the people to search the city, seeking someone who executes judgment and seeks the truth. The implication is that such righteous individuals are difficult to find. Furthermore, Jeremiah laments that despite the people’s superficial declarations of faith, they frequently break their promises and swear falsely.
