Jeremiah 6:11

Therefore I am full of the furie of the Lord: I am weary with holding in: I will powre it out vpon the children abroad, and vpon the assembly of yong men together: for euen the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of dayes. Jeremiah 6:11 (KJV)

The passage is a declaration spoken by the LORD Himself, not by the prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah serves as the messenger who delivers God’s words to a people whose rebellion has provoked divine anger. The verse opens with God stating that He is “full of the fury of the LORD,” indicating that His righteous wrath is burning within Him. He then says He is “weary with holding in” this fury, expressing that He can no longer contain the judgment He intends to bring.

God’s intention to “pour it out” is directed toward every segment of society. The judgment will fall on “the children abroad” and on “the assembly of young men together,” showing that no age group is exempt. The verse further emphasizes the totality of the coming disaster by stating that even the closest domestic relationships—”the husband with the wife”—will be taken, and that the aged will be swept away alongside those “full of days.” This language underscores the universal impact of divine judgment.

Understanding that Jeremiah is merely the conduit for this message helps the reader grasp the seriousness of the warning. The prophet’s role is to convey God’s fierce displeasure and to call the people to repentance before the impending calamity is unleashed. The passage serves as a stark reminder that God’s wrath, when provoked by persistent disobedience, will be poured out without partiality, affecting all generations and relationships within the community.

The study of this verse therefore calls believers to examine their own hearts, recognize the seriousness of divine judgment, and respond in humility and repentance, trusting that God’s mercy remains available to those who turn back to Him.
