Job 12:16

Posted on 18 May at 15:20
Listen to this article

“With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.”

Job 12:16 is part of a larger section where Job is responding to his friends’ attempts to explain the reasons behind his suffering. In this verse, Job acknowledges that both strength and wisdom belong to God.

“With him is strength and wisdom”: This phrase emphasizes that God possesses both strength and wisdom. Job recognizes that these qualities are inherent in God’s nature. It highlights God’s sovereignty and His ability to act with power and understanding. The strength of God suggests His ability to bring about His will, and wisdom highlights His perfect knowledge and insight into all things.

“The deceived and the deceiver are his”: This phrase can be interpreted in different ways. It points to the fact that both the deceived and the deceiver ultimately belong to God. It implies that no one can escape God’s knowledge and authority. All individuals, regardless of their intentions or actions, are under God’s sovereignty.

From a broader perspective, this verse reflects Job’s understanding that God is in control, even when he finds himself in a state of great suffering and confusion. Job acknowledges that God is the source of all strength and wisdom and that He ultimately has authority over all things, including those who deceive or are deceived.

The verse also raises questions about God’s role in allowing deception. It highlights the complexity of God’s ways and His ability to work even through situations that seem contradictory or confusing to human understanding. It calls for humility and trust in God’s sovereignty, even when faced with difficult circumstances.

Overall, Job 12:16 reminds us of the greatness and wisdom of God and the need for trust in His plans, even when we may not fully comprehend them.
