Job 19:25

Posted on 18 May at 15:19
Listen to this article

“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.”

Job 19:25 (KJV) says: “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.”

Context of Job 19:Job 19 is a chapter in the book of Job, which recounts the story of a man named Job who faced immense suffering and loss. In this particular chapter, Job responds to his friends who had been accusing him of sin and trying to explain his suffering. Despite his afflictions, Job expresses his faith in God and his confidence in a future redemption.

“For I know that my redeemer liveth”: In this verse, Job acknowledges his unwavering faith in a living Redeemer. The term “redeemer” refers to a kinsman-redeemer, someone who has the power and right to deliver a family member in times of trouble or loss. Job, amidst his trials, affirms his conviction that his Redeemer lives, indicating his belief in a living God who has the power to bring redemption.

“He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth”: Job further declares his assurance that his Redeemer will stand on the earth in the latter days. This statement implies a future hope and expectation of a coming day when his Redeemer will intervene and establish His authority and righteousness over all the earth.

Significance and Application:

  • Hope in God’s redemption:Job’s words reveal his unwavering hope in God’s redemptive power. Despite his dire circumstances, Job clings to the belief that God is alive and actively working to bring about deliverance. This encourages us to maintain our trust in God, even when faced with trials and difficulties.
  • Belief in the future resurrection:Job’s mention of his Redeemer standing upon the earth in the latter days points to the hope of a future resurrection and the final judgment. It echoes the belief in the ultimate victory of God over evil and the restoration of all things. As believers, we can draw comfort from this affirmation, knowing that one day God will set all things right.
  • The foreshadowing of Jesus Christ:While Job may not have had a clear understanding of the Messiah, his words have a prophetic significance. Job’s declaration of a living Redeemer who will stand upon the earth finds fulfillment in Jesus Christ, who came as the ultimate Redeemer and Savior of humanity. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection fulfill the hope Job expressed in this verse.

Overall, Job 19:25 highlights Job’s unshakeable faith in a living Redeemer and his anticipation of a future redemption. It speaks to the enduring hope we can have in God’s faithfulness, the promise of a future resurrection, and the ultimate fulfillment of redemption through Jesus Christ.
