John 10:25

Posted on 18 May at 14:36
Listen to this article

“Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.”

In this verse, Jesus responds to the Jews who question Him about His identity and whether He is the Christ. Let’s break down the verse and explore its significance:

“Jesus answered them”: Jesus is responding to the Jews who are questioning Him. This shows that Jesus is engaged in a dialogue with His audience and is ready to provide answers.

“I told you, and ye believed not”: Jesus refers to previous statements He made, indicating that He had already revealed the truth to them but they did not believe. This highlights the persistent unbelief and resistance of some individuals in accepting Jesus’ claims.

“the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me”: Jesus points to His miraculous works as evidence of His divine mission and identity. The miracles Jesus performed were signs of His authority and the presence of God working through Him. These works testified to His divine nature and affirmed His claims.

In this verse, Jesus emphasizes that His actions and miracles are a testament to His identity and mission. His works are done in the name of the Father, affirming His close relationship and unity with God. However, despite the evidence presented through His miraculous works, some of the Jews remained sceptical and did not believe in Him.

This verse prompts us to reflect on the importance of recognising the signs and works of God in our lives. Jesus’ miracles were not mere displays of power but had a deeper purpose: to reveal His true identity as the Son of God and the promised Messiah. Similarly, we are called to seek and acknowledge God’s work in our lives, recognising His hand at work and responding in faith.

As we study this verse, we can learn the significance of faith in accepting and recognising God’s revelation. Jesus’ response to the Jews highlights the need for openness and belief in the face of evidence. It reminds us that faith goes beyond intellectual understanding and requires a receptive heart to receive and respond to God’s revelation.

In conclusion, John 10:25 (KJV) demonstrates Jesus’ response to the Jews’ questions about His identity. He emphasises that His works bear witness to His divinity, serving as evidence of His relationship with God the Father. This verse encourages us to have faith, recognising God’s hand at work in our lives and responding to His revelation with an open heart.
