John 3:33

Posted on 18 May at 14:05

He that hath receiued his testimonie, hath set to his seale, that God is true. John 3:33 (KJV)

John 3:33 occurs within the Gospel of John (John 3:22‑36), where John the Baptist testifies about Jesus and the chapter also records a nighttime discussion between Jesus and Nicodemus. Verse 33 itself is a narrative statement by the author rather than a direct utterance in the dialogue.

In this verse “His testimony” refers to the testimony of Jesus Christ concerning Himself and the kingdom of God. Jesus had been sharing profound truths about His divine nature, His role as the Son of God, and the necessity of being born again to enter the kingdom of God.

“He that hath received his testimony” denotes those who accept and believe the words and teachings of Jesus. It signifies individuals who have embraced Jesus’ message with faith and trust.

The phrase “hath set to his seal” (or “hath set his seal”) signifies a personal confirmation or attestation of the truthfulness and authority of God’s Word as revealed through Jesus. To set a seal is to affix a mark of approval, indicating agreement, validation, or acceptance.

By accepting Jesus’ testimony and setting their seal, believers affirm that God is faithful and true. This acknowledgment declares that Jesus’ words are not mere human wisdom but divine revelation from God Himself. Believers recognize that Jesus is the embodiment of truth and that His teachings are reliable, trustworthy, and in perfect alignment with the character and will of God.

John 3:33 emphasizes the importance of faith and trust in Jesus’ testimony. It encourages believers not only to intellectually acknowledge Jesus’ words but also to personally accept and affirm them as true. When individuals genuinely receive and believe in Jesus’ testimony, they acknowledge the authority of God and His Word in their lives.

The verse calls us to put our faith in Jesus, believing that He is the Son of God, that He died for our sins, and that through Him we can have eternal life. We should personally affirm and attest to the truth of God’s Word revealed through Jesus, requiring a sincere conviction that His teachings are the ultimate authority and guide for our lives. By setting our seal, we acknowledge God’s faithfulness and trustworthiness, confident that His promises and His Word will never fail or deceive us.

Overall, John 3:33 underscores the necessity of receiving Jesus’ testimony and affirming God’s truth through personal belief and trust, urging us to place our faith in Jesus and recognize His authority as the Son of God.
