John 5:43
“I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.”
Context:In this verse, Jesus is speaking to the Jews who were questioning Him regarding His authority and identity. He asserts that He has come in His Father’s name, referring to God the Father, and yet the Jews did not receive Him. Jesus is highlighting their rejection of Him as the Son of God, despite His divine origin and the works He has done in the Father’s name.
The latter part of the verse speaks to a future scenario where Jesus states that if another person comes in his own name, someone who does not have the Father’s authority or divine backing, the Jews would be more likely to accept that person. Jesus is making a prophetic statement about the rejection He would face from the Jewish leaders and their eventual acceptance of false messiahs or individuals who claim authority without divine endorsement.
This verse emphasizes the importance of recognizing and accepting Jesus as the true Son of God, sent by the Father. It also serves as a warning against being easily swayed by those who come with their own claims and ambitions, seeking personal glory and authority.
Overall, John 5:43 reminds us of the significance of acknowledging Jesus’ divine origin and authority, and the need to discern between true messengers of God and those who come with their own self-centred motives.
