John 7:25

Listen to this article

Then said some of them of Hierusalem, Is not this hee, whome they seeke to kill? John 7:25 (KJV)

In this scene Jesus is in Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles, teaching in the temple. The crowd is divided; some are drawn to Him, while others remain skeptical or hostile. The verse records the astonishment of a group from Jerusalem who recognize Jesus yet are puzzled that those who have plotted to put Him to death have not yet succeeded. Their question highlights that Jesus was a well‑known figure in the city, and that public opinion about Him was sharply split.

The phrase “whom they seek to kill” points to the religious leaders who were conspiring against Him because His teaching challenged their authority and the traditions they guarded. Despite these lethal intentions, Jesus remains alive, illustrating God’s providential timing. His life is preserved until the appointed hour of the crucifixion, showing that nothing can thwart the divine plan until the mission is fulfilled.

This preservation underscores the sovereignty of God. Even while opposition and danger surround Him, Jesus continues to teach and perform miracles, a testimony that God is in control of every circumstance. The passage therefore invites believers to recognize Jesus for who He truly is, rather than being swayed by popular opinion or conflicting viewpoints. It also encourages trust in God’s timing and protection, assuring us that He governs our lives even amid difficulty.

In conclusion, John 7:25 offers a vivid glimpse of both the recognition of Jesus and the tension surrounding Him. It serves as a reminder that God’s sovereignty reigns over opposition, and that faithful recognition and trust in Jesus are essential, regardless of the opinions and resistance we may encounter.
