John 7:29

Listen to this article

“But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.”

Context:John 7:29 is part of a larger passage where Jesus is teaching in the temple during the Feast of Tabernacles. The people are divided in their opinions about Him, and there is a lot of speculation and confusion regarding His identity and mission.

Knowing God:In this verse, Jesus declares that He knows God the Father. This knowledge is not merely intellectual but relational and experiential. Jesus has an intimate and unique connection with the Father, and He understands His nature, character, and will. This knowledge is based on their eternal unity and the divine mission entrusted to Jesus.

Divine Origin:Jesus affirms His divine origin by stating, “for I am from Him.” He is claiming a preexistence with the Father before His incarnation on earth. Jesus existed with the Father in perfect unity and equality before coming to the world as the Son of God.

Divine Mission:Jesus also emphasizes that God the Father has sent Him. This highlights Jesus’ role as the one sent by God to fulfill a specific purpose. Jesus’ mission on earth is to reveal God’s love, offer salvation, and ultimately provide reconciliation between God and humanity through His sacrificial death and resurrection.

Authority and Purpose:Jesus’ statement in John 7:29 asserts His authority as the Son of God. He speaks with confidence and certainty about His relationship with the Father and the purpose for which He was sent. This verse underscores Jesus’ unique position as the mediator between God and humanity, with a clear understanding of His mission.

Implications for Believers:As followers of Jesus, John 7:29 reminds us of the importance of knowing God intimately. Through faith in Christ, we too can have a personal relationship with the Father and experience His love, grace, and guidance. Jesus’ example encourages us to seek a deeper knowledge of God, align our lives with His will, and embrace the mission He has given us.
