John 7:6

Posted on 18 May at 14:04

Then Iesus said vnto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. John 7:6 (KJV)

Then Jesus said unto them,

My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. John 7:6 (KJV)

Context: To understand the significance of John 7:6 we must recall the Feast of Tabernacles, a Jewish pilgrimage festival that commemorated Israel’s wilderness journey after the Exodus. It was one of three annual festivals when Jewish males were required to travel to Jerusalem. During this feast Jesus’ brothers encouraged Him to go so that they might see Him and perhaps be convinced, even urging Him to make Himself known by performing miracles.

Jesus’ response: In verse 6 Jesus replies, “My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.” His answer reflects divine wisdom and a clear awareness of God’s appointed timetable. He knew that His earthly mission—public ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection—had a specific schedule set by the Father. While His brothers could attend the feast whenever they wished, Jesus was bound by the divine timetable that would bring salvation at the proper moment.

God’s perfect timing: This verse underscores that Jesus’ purpose was not to gain popularity through miracles but to fulfill God’s plan of salvation through His sacrificial death. He had to wait for the right moment to reveal Himself fully to the world. The Gospels record other instances where Jesus says His time has not yet come, for example John 2:4, John 7:6, and John 7:30, demonstrating His continual obedience to the Father’s will and dependence on divine timing.

Application:

Believers can learn from Jesus’ example to trust God’s timing in their own lives. Impatience and the desire for immediate answers are natural, yet, just as Jesus waited for the appointed hour, we are called to surrender to God’s perfect schedule. Delays may be hard to accept, but God sees the larger picture and knows what is best. Patience, faith, and surrender to His timing become essential aspects of our relationship with Him.

In conclusion:

John 7:6 offers insight into Jesus’ response to His brothers’ request and teaches the importance of God’s perfect timing. It reminds us to trust His plan even when we long for swift results, seeking His guidance and cultivating patience as we walk in obedience to Him.
