Listen to this article

And Ioshua said vnto them, Feare not, nor be dismaid, bee strong, and of good courage: for thus shall the Lord doe to all your enemies against whom ye fight. Joshua 10:25 (KJV)

This verse is part of the account of the conquest of the Promised Land by the Israelites under the leadership of Joshua. In this particular chapter, Joshua and the Israelite army have just achieved a significant victory over five Amorite kings who had formed a coalition to oppose them. The battle had been fierce, but with the help of God, the Israelites emerged triumphant.

In this verse, Joshua addresses his people, assuring them not to be afraid or discouraged. His words emphasize the importance of courage and strength. Joshua’s statement reflects his unwavering faith in God’s promise to deliver victory to the Israelites. He assures them that the Lord will deal with all their enemies, just as He had done with the five Amorite kings.

‘Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goes.’ (Joshua 1:9, KJV)

This verse is part of the opening of the Book of Joshua, where God commissions Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. It occurs at the very start of Joshua’s leadership, before the Israelite army engages in the battles that follow, including the later defeat of five Amorite kings recorded in Joshua 10. In this passage, Joshua encourages the people, urging them not to be fearful or discouraged. His words emphasize the importance of courage and confidence in God’s presence. Joshua’s statement reflects his reliance on God’s promise that He will be with the Israelites throughout their conquest.
