Joshua 15:40

And Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish, Joshua 15:40 (KJV)

Joshua 15 records the allocation of land to the tribe of Judah within the Promised Land. The chapter lists the cities and their territories that formed the inheritance of Judah, and verse 40 is part of this detailed enumeration, mentioning Cabbon, Lahmam, and Kithlish.

After the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt and their journey through the wilderness, they entered the land of Canaan, which God had promised to give to them. The land was divided among the twelve tribes of Israel, and Joshua was appointed to distribute the portions to each tribe.

It is worth noting that while the verse as quoted includes Cabbon, Lahmam, and Kithlish, some readings of Joshua 15:40 in the King James Version do not list these cities, indicating a textual variation in different manuscript traditions.

The three cities—Cabbon, Lahmam, and Kithlish—are mentioned only briefly in the passage and have limited additional information elsewhere in Scripture. Their inclusion serves to delineate the specific areas that fell within Judah’s allotted territory, underscoring the completeness of the tribal inheritance.

The broader context of Joshua 15 emphasizes God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises to the Israelites by granting them the Promised Land. This theme offers believers today a clear lesson: we can trust in God’s promises and recognize His provision in our own lives.

From this passage we draw two primary spiritual lessons. First, the faithfulness of God to His covenant reminds us to remain steadfast in trusting His word. Second, the concrete distribution of land encourages believers to acknowledge and be grateful for the material and spiritual provisions God supplies.

Applying these truths, we are called to trust in God’s promises even when the details of the future are unclear, confident that He will act faithfully according to His plan. Additionally, reflecting on God’s provision should foster gratitude and contentment, reminding us that every blessing originates from Him and should be received with a thankful heart.
