Joshua 18:26

And Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah, Joshua 18:26 (KJV)

Joshua 18 records the allocation of the remaining land of Canaan among the tribes of Israel. The land was divided by lot, and each tribe was given its inheritance. In this verse we find a list of three cities belonging to the tribe of Benjamin.

Mizpeh was a city located in the territory of Benjamin, near Jerusalem. It is later mentioned in Nehemiah 3:7 and 11:1 as a gathering place for the Israelites after their return from exile. Chephirah was another city in Benjamin’s tribal territory and is listed in Ezra 2:25 among the towns from which people returned after the Babylonian exile. Mozah was a lesser‑known city within the borders of Benjamin’s inheritance; the verse mentions it but historical information about it is limited.

The listing of these cities in Joshua 18:26 demonstrates the fulfillment of God’s promise to give each tribe its portion of the Promised Land. The division of the land, described throughout Joshua 18, showed God’s faithfulness in providing and guiding His people as they settled the land that He had promised to their ancestors.

Although the cities themselves may not hold significant spiritual or theological meaning, the broader context of the land distribution reflects God’s faithfulness to fulfill His promises. It reminds believers of the importance of recognizing and appreciating the blessings and provisions that God grants in our lives. It also encourages us to seek God’s guidance and follow His plans, trusting that He will lead us into places of blessing and fulfillment.

Overall, Joshua 18:26 provides a glimpse into the process of dividing the land among the tribes of Israel and reminds us of God’s steadfast faithfulness in fulfilling His covenant promises.
