Joshua 9:26

“And so did he unto them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slew them not.”

Context: Joshua 9 tells the story of the Gibeonites, a Canaanite people who deceived the Israelites into making a covenant with them. The Gibeonites feared the impending destruction of the Israelites, so they disguised themselves as travelers from a distant land and approached Joshua with a plan to make peace. Later, they discovered that the Gibeonites were actually their neighbors.

Honoring a Covenant: In this verse, Joshua and the Israelites honored the covenant they had made with the Gibeonites, even though they had been deceived. The Israelites could have taken vengeance upon discovering the truth, but they chose to uphold their word and spare the lives of the Gibeonites.
