Ye shal offer at your owne wil a male without blemish, of the beeues, of the sheepe, or of the goats. Leviticus 22:19 (KJV)

Leviticus 22:19 states: ‘Ye shall offer at your own will a male without blemish, of the beeves, of the sheep, or of the goats.’ The book of Leviticus belongs to the Torah, the first five books of the Bible, which contain the laws and regulations given by God to the Israelites. Its primary concern is the priesthood, the sacrificial system, and the holiness of God’s people. Chapter 22 deals specifically with the requirements for priests’ conduct and the offerings they were to receive from the community.

In this verse God commands the Israelites to present male animals without blemish—cattle, sheep, or goats—as sacrifices. The phrase “at your own will” makes clear that these offerings were voluntary, not compulsory. The people were free to bring such sacrifices as an expression of devotion and gratitude, rather than as a forced obligation.

The stipulation that the animals be without blemish underscores the principle of offering the best to God. Physical perfection of the sacrifice symbolized reverence and worship, pointing to a heart that seeks to give God what is most valuable. The same principle is applied to believers today: we are urged to offer our lives, talents, and resources with sincerity and integrity.

The Old Testament sacrificial system prefigured the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ. As the Lamb of God, Jesus fulfilled the requirement for an unblemished offering, becoming the perfect mediator who grants forgiveness and salvation to all who believe. Although Christians are no longer bound by the animal‑sacrifice regulations, the underlying values remain relevant. Romans 12:1 calls believers to present their bodies as “living sacrifices,” offering their best not only in material possessions but also in devotion, service, and obedience.

Thus Leviticus 22:19 highlights a voluntary offering of unblemished animals, teaches the importance of presenting our best to God, points forward to Christ as the perfect sacrifice, and invites every believer to dedicate their whole life as a living sacrifice to the Almighty.
