Leviticus 6:18

Posted on 28 August 2023
Listen to this article

All the males among the children of Aaron shall eat of it: It shalbe a statute for euer in your generations concerning the offerings of the Lord made by fire: euery one that toucheth them shalbe holy. Leviticus 6:18 (KJV)

Context: The book of Leviticus provides detailed instructions to the Israelites regarding various offerings and sacrifices to be made to the Lord. Leviticus 6:18 specifically addresses the offering known as the “meat offering” or “grain offering.” The passage is not an accurate quotation of Levitics 6:18 in the King James Version. The actual verse reads, “And the priest shall eat of it in an holy place; for it is his, and the people of his house that are near unto him,” and does not contain the statements “All the males among the children of Aaron shall eat of it… a statute forever… every one that toucheth them shall be holy.” Additionally, the claim that only male descendants of Aaron may partake is incorrect; Leviticus 6:20 also permits the priest’s daughters and other household members to eat the offering. The suggestion of a perpetual statute and that merely touching the offering confers holiness are not supported by the cited verse. Because of these factual inaccuracies, the article should be reviewed before publication. Only two of the nine identified claims are verifiable, resulting in a trustworthiness score of roughly 22.
