Luke 1:70

“As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:”

Certainly! Let’s study Luke 1:70 in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible. Luke 1:70 says:

This verse is part of the song of Zechariah, also known as the Benedictus. Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, prophesied after his speech was restored following the birth of his son. The Benedictus is a hymn of praise and prophecy that Zechariah spoke under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

In Luke 1:70, Zechariah declares that God has spoken through His holy prophets since the world began. This verse highlights the continuity and consistency of God’s revelation throughout history. From the beginning of creation, God chose to reveal Himself and His plans through His prophets, who were set apart as His messengers.

This verse emphasizes the divine inspiration behind the prophecies recorded in the Scriptures. The prophets were not merely expressing their own thoughts or ideas but were speaking on behalf of God. They were divinely appointed and empowered to convey God’s messages to His people.

The Old Testament is filled with prophecies delivered by these holy prophets, revealing God’s plans and purposes. These prophecies often foretold future events, including the coming of the Messiah, His birth, His ministry, and His redemptive work. These prophecies provided hope and pointed to the fulfillment of God’s promises.

In the context of Luke 1, Zechariah’s words acknowledge that John the Baptist would serve as a prophet and prepare the way for the Lord, as prophesied in the Old Testament. Zechariah’s son would play a significant role in the fulfillment of these ancient prophecies, leading the people to repentance and preparing them for the coming of Jesus Christ.
