Luke 12:8
Also I say vnto you, Whosoeuer shall confesse me before men, him shall the Sonne of man also confesse before the Angels of God. Luke 12:8 (KJV)
“And I say unto you, whosoever shall confess me before men, the Son of Man will also confess him before the angels of God.” This verse belongs to a larger passage in Luke where Jesus is teaching His disciples and a crowd about discipleship, trust in God, and the coming kingdom.
In the verses that precede Luke 12:8, Jesus warns against the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and cautions His listeners to fear God rather than people, reminding them that human judgment is limited compared with God’s authority over life and death (see Luke 12:4‑7).
In verse 8 Jesus urges His followers to publicly confess Him before others. That confession means openly declaring faith in Jesus as the Son of God, the Messiah, and the Savior. He assures that anyone who confesses Him before men will be confessed by Him before the angels of God. The promise highlights two vital aspects of discipleship: proclamation and recognition.
First, Jesus expects His disciples to boldly proclaim their faith. A public confession demonstrates allegiance to Christ and a willingness to stand for Him even when faced with opposition or persecution. Such confession involves both words and actions that reflect a genuine, lived commitment to follow Him.
Second, He promises to acknowledge (or “confess”) those who acknowledge Him before the heavenly hosts. This recognition signifies a personal relationship between Jesus and His followers, affirming their faithfulness and granting them a place in His eternal kingdom, with the reward awaiting them in that kingdom.
The verse also reminds believers of the responsibility and privilege to share the good news of Jesus Christ. When we openly acknowledge Him and share our faith, we have the opportunity to impact lives and draw others closer to Him, fulfilling the call to be witnesses for the kingdom.
