Listen to this article

“Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.”

Context:Luke 22:28 is part of the Last Supper discourse, where Jesus is speaking to His disciples before His crucifixion. In this passage, Jesus acknowledges the faithfulness of His disciples who have stood by Him during His trials and temptations.

Faithfulness in Temptations:Jesus recognizes the commitment and perseverance of His disciples, emphasizing their loyalty and steadfastness during His times of trial. This statement from Jesus serves as an encouragement to the disciples and a reminder of the importance of remaining faithful to Christ despite challenges and difficulties.

Lessons for Believers:a. Endurance in Trials: The disciples’ unwavering commitment to Jesus during His temptations serves as an example for all believers. It teaches us that following Christ may involve facing various trials and temptations, but we are called to endure and remain faithful to Him.

b. The Cost of Discipleship: Following Jesus requires commitment and may involve sacrifices. Just as the disciples faced challenges for their loyalty to Jesus, we should be prepared to face opposition and difficulties as we live out our faith.

c. Encouragement for the Faithful: Jesus acknowledges and appreciates the faithfulness of His disciples. Similarly, as believers, we can find comfort and encouragement in knowing that Christ recognizes and values our loyalty and perseverance.

Application:

  • Perseverance in Trials:When we face challenges or temptations, we should draw strength from the example of the disciples and remain steadfast in our commitment to Jesus.
  • Counting the Cost:It is essential to understand that following Jesus may involve sacrifices, but the rewards of a faithful relationship with Him far outweigh any earthly difficulties.
  • Seek Christ’s Approval:We should strive to live our lives in a manner that pleases and honors Christ. Just as Jesus recognized the faithfulness of His disciples, we should seek to hear His words of commendation in our own lives.

Remember, this passage reminds us that faithfulness to Christ is not always easy, but it is rewarded and honored by Him. Let us draw inspiration from the disciples’ example and seek to remain steadfast in our commitment to Jesus, no matter the circumstances.
