Listen to this article

“Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; Luke 24:22 (KJV)”

This verse is part of the account of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this passage, two disciples were on their way to Emmaus, discussing the events that had taken place in Jerusalem, including the crucifixion and reports of Jesus’ empty tomb. Suddenly, Jesus Himself appeared and joined them on their journey, but they did not recognize Him at first.

In Luke 24:22, the disciples are recounting their experience to Jesus, expressing their astonishment. They mention that certain women from their company had gone to the sepulcher early in the morning and had encountered something unexpected. These women had been faithful followers of Jesus and had witnessed His crucifixion and burial.

This verse serves as a reminder of the pivotal role played by the women in the narrative of Jesus’ resurrection. Their dedication and commitment are evident as they were the first to arrive at the tomb. Their astonishment suggests that they had witnessed something remarkable or encountered an angelic presence, which had left them in awe.

The inclusion of this detail highlights the reliability of the accounts of Jesus’ resurrection. It demonstrates that the disciples’ testimonies were not based on mere speculation or hearsay but on the eyewitness testimony of those who had personally experienced the events surrounding Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Furthermore, this verse emphasizes the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as it was the pivotal event that transformed the lives of His followers and laid the foundation for the Christian faith. The empty tomb serves as evidence of Jesus’ victory over death and His power to provide salvation and eternal life to all who believe in Him.

Overall, Luke 24:22 underscores the role of the women who witnessed the empty tomb, their astonishment at what they encountered, and their contribution to the accounts of Jesus’ resurrection. It encourages readers to recognize the historical reliability of the biblical narrative and the central importance of Christ’s resurrection in the Christian faith.
