Malachi 2:12

The Lord will cut off the man that doth this: the Master and the scholler out of the tabernacles of Iacob, and him that offereth an offring vnto the Lord of hostes. Malachi 2:12 (KJV)

Malachi 2:12 in the King James Version states: “The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.” The passage warns that the Lord will bring swift judgment upon those who pervert His covenant. He declares that He will come near to judge the sorcerers, the adulterers, the false swearers, and those who oppress the hired worker, the widow, and the fatherless. He also condemns those who turn away their noses from following Him and cause their hearts to depart from Him, as well as those who act unrighteously in their dealings.

The Lord affirms His unchanging nature: “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” Yet the people have departed from His ordinances since the days of their fathers and have not kept them. The Lord calls them to return, promising that He will return to them. He warns that the proud and the wicked will be consumed like stubble in a furnace, leaving no root nor branch. To those who fear His name, He promises the Sun of righteousness rising with healing in its wings, that they may grow like calves in the stall and tread down the wicked, who will become ashes under their feet on the day of divine judgment.

Thus the verse and its surrounding exposition call the faithful to heed the warning, to return to covenant fidelity, and to trust in the Lord’s righteous judgment and restorative mercy.
