Mark 1:43
“And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away.”
Context:In this verse, Jesus has just healed a man with leprosy. After the healing, Jesus strictly charges the man and sends him away.
Healing of the Leper:Prior to this verse, in Mark 1:40-42, a man with leprosy came to Jesus, imploring Him to heal him. Jesus, moved with compassion, touched the man and said, “I will; be thou clean.” Immediately, the leprosy left the man, and he was healed.
Strict Charge:In Mark 1:43, we see Jesus giving a strict charge to the man He had just healed. This indicates that Jesus had a specific purpose in mind for the man and wanted him to follow certain instructions. The charge given by Jesus is not explicitly mentioned in this verse, but it could be understood as a command to follow the prescribed instructions for ceremonial cleansing as described in Leviticus 14. Jesus might have wanted the man to undergo the necessary rituals and present himself to the priests, as required by the law of Moses.
Sent Him Away:After giving the charge, Jesus sent the man away. Jesus wanted the man to fulfil the requirements of the law and demonstrate his healing to the priests, as a testimony of God’s power and the fulfilment of the Messianic prophecies.
Lessons to Learn:a) Obedience to God’s commands: The healed man’s obedience to Jesus’ charge serves as a reminder of the importance of following God’s instructions. It reveals the need for us to be diligent in obeying God’s Word, even when we may not fully understand the purpose behind His commands.
b) Testimony and gratitude: By sending the man to the priests, Jesus intended for him to offer a testimony of his healing, thus magnifying God’s glory. This reminds us of the importance of sharing our testimonies and expressing gratitude for the works God has done in our lives. Our testimonies can encourage others and draw them closer to God.
c) Jesus’ concern for both physical and spiritual well-being: Jesus’ act of healing the leper demonstrates His compassion and power to transform lives. It shows His concern not only for the physical well-being of individuals but also for their spiritual condition. In this passage, Jesus directs the man toward a process of spiritual restoration in addition to physical healing.
