For in those dayes shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created, vnto this time, neither shall be. Mark 13:19 (KJV)

Mark 13 is known as the “Olivet Discourse,” where Jesus speaks to His disciples about the signs of the end times and His second coming. In verse 19 He describes the severity of the affliction that will occur during those days.

The term “affliction” refers to suffering, distress, or tribulation. Jesus foretells a time of unprecedented hardship and trouble, a suffering so severe that it surpasses any previous hardship experienced since the beginning of creation.

Jesus emphasizes the unparalleled nature of this affliction. It signifies that the upcoming period will be distinct and incomparable to any other time in history, affecting all aspects of life with an unprecedented magnitude.

He highlights that the affliction will extend from the beginning of creation. While suffering and hardship have existed since the fall of humanity in the Garden of Eden, the tribulation of the end times will exceed all previous hardships, making it an extraordinary period of suffering.

While the affliction will be severe, it is essential to remember that God remains in control. He is the Creator of all things, and nothing happens outside of His knowledge and authority. The passage acknowledges that God allows this affliction as part of His plan for the culmination of human history.

Jesus’ words in Mark 13:19 serve both as a warning and an encouragement. They warn believers to be prepared for difficult times ahead, lest they be caught off guard, and they also offer encouragement by assuring that God’s sovereignty and purpose are in place even amid tribulation.

When facing affliction, believers are called to trust in God’s faithfulness and promises. Scripture records numerous examples of God’s provision, protection, and deliverance during times of trouble. Mark 13:19 reminds us to place our trust in Him, knowing He is with us even in the most challenging circumstances.

In conclusion, Mark 13:19 depicts a future time of unparalleled affliction, surpassing any suffering experienced since the beginning of creation. Despite the severity of this tribulation, the passage serves as a reminder of God’s sovereignty, calling believers to trust in Him and be prepared for the challenges to come.
