Mark 5:30
“And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?”
Context:To understand the significance of this verse, we need to consider the broader context of Mark 5:30. In the preceding verses (Mark 5:25-29), we read about a woman who had suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years. She had faith that if she could touch Jesus’ garment, she would be healed. So, in Mark 5:30, Jesus feels power, or virtue, going out from Him as the woman touches His clothes.
Immediate knowledge:The verse tells us that Jesus immediately knew in Himself that virtue had gone out of Him. This highlights Jesus’ divine nature and His awareness of the supernatural exchange that took place. It demonstrates His sensitivity to the touch of faith and His ability to discern the needs and intentions of individuals.
Turning in the press:Jesus turns around in the midst of the crowd and asks, “Who touched my clothes?” Although there were many people pressing against Him, seeking to touch Him, Jesus perceives a distinct touch of faith that drew power from Him. Despite the seemingly anonymous nature of the touch, Jesus wants to identify the person and acknowledge her faith openly.
Importance of faith:This incident emphasizes the importance of faith in receiving healing and blessings from Jesus. The woman demonstrated great faith by believing that even touching Jesus’ clothes would bring her healing. Her faith, combined with Jesus’ power, led to her immediate restoration. This passage encourages us to have faith in Jesus, knowing that He is able to meet our needs when we approach Him with trust and confidence.
