Listen to this article

“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Context:Matthew 25:21 is part of a parable commonly known as the Parable of the Talents. Jesus tells this parable to illustrate the kingdom of heaven and how believers are to faithfully use the resources and gifts God has given them.

Faithfulness in stewardship:In this verse, the master commends one of his servants for being faithful in managing the resources entrusted to him. The servant is commended for his faithfulness, referred to as a "good and faithful servant." This teaches us the importance of being responsible stewards of the gifts, talents, time, and resources that God has given us.

God’s reward:The master in the parable promises to reward the servant by entrusting him with more responsibilities. The servant who faithfully manages the little he was given is promised to be made a ruler over many things. This highlights God’s principle of multiplication and how He entrusts greater responsibilities and blessings to those who prove faithful in the small things.

Joy in the Lord:The verse concludes with the master inviting the servant to enter into the joy of his lord. This points to the ultimate reward and joy that awaits faithful believers in the presence of God. It emphasizes the eternal and immeasurable joy and satisfaction that comes from serving and pleasing the Lord.

Application:Matthew 25:21 encourages us to be faithful and diligent in using the resources, opportunities, and talents God has given us. It reminds us that our faithfulness in the present impacts our future and opens doors for greater blessings and responsibilities. We should strive to hear the Lord’s words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant," by using our gifts and resources to honour God and advance His kingdom.

  • In summary:Matthew 25:21 teaches us the importance of faithfulness in managing the resources and talents God has given us. It highlights the promise of God’s reward and the eternal joy that comes from serving Him faithfully. May we be inspired to be faithful stewards and use our God-given resources for His glory.
