Matthew 26:32

Listen to this article

“But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.”

Context:The Last Supper (Matthew 26:17-30) is a significant event that took place on the night before Jesus’ crucifixion. During this Passover meal, Jesus revealed that one of His disciples would betray Him, and He instituted the Lord’s Supper or Communion, symbolizing His body and blood.

Resurrection Prediction:In Matthew 26:31, Jesus quotes from Zechariah 13:7, stating that all His disciples would be scattered because of Him. After this, in verse 32, Jesus adds that despite their scattering, He will rise again and meet them in Galilee. This indicates His confidence in overcoming death and the promise of His resurrection.

Galilee:Galilee holds significant importance throughout Jesus’ ministry. It was Jesus’ hometown and the region where He began His public ministry, performing miracles, preaching the Kingdom of God, and calling His disciples. By mentioning Galilee, Jesus assures His disciples that they will reunite in the familiar surroundings where they initially encountered Him.

The Disciples’ Scattering:Jesus’ statement about His disciples being scattered fulfills the prophecy in Zechariah 13:7 and reflects the events that unfolded after Jesus’ arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. The disciples’ fear and confusion led them to disperse temporarily, abandoning Jesus at His crucifixion. However, Jesus’ resurrection would ultimately restore their faith and gather them together again.

Fulfillment and Encouragement:Jesus’ prediction of His resurrection and promise to meet His disciples in Galilee not only fulfilled the prophecies but also provided assurance and hope to His followers. Despite the difficult times they were about to face, Jesus reassured them that He would triumph over death and be reunited with them.
