“For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on

Verse: “For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

Context:

Matthew 7:8 is a part of Jesus’ teachings commonly known as the Sermon on the Mount. In this portion of the sermon, Jesus is instructing His disciples and the crowd about prayer and the way they should approach God.

Ask and Receive:

Jesus begins by emphasizing the power of prayer and the willingness of God to respond to the requests of His children. He assures His listeners that everyone who asks will receive. This verse reflects the loving nature of God, who is ready to listen to our prayers and answer them according to His wisdom and will.

Seek and Find:

Jesus goes on to emphasize the importance of seeking. It implies an active pursuit of something or someone. He assures His followers that those who seek will find. This teaches us that a genuine search for God and His truth will yield results. When we earnestly seek God with all our hearts, we will discover a deeper relationship with Him and gain understanding of His will.

Knock and It Shall Be Opened:

Jesus teaches about persistence in prayer. He encourages His followers to knock, signifying a persistent action. He promises that the door will be opened to those who knock. This implies that when we persistently seek access to God, whether for wisdom, guidance, or any other need, He will open the door and grant us what is best for us.

Application:

Matthew 7:8 teaches us several important principles regarding prayer and our relationship with God. First, it reminds us of the importance of asking in prayer. We can bring our needs, desires, and concerns before God, confident that He hears and responds to our requests. Second, it encourages us to seek God diligently. As we pursue a deeper knowledge of Him, His Word, and His will, we will be rewarded with a closer relationship and a greater understanding of His purposes. Lastly, it emphasizes the significance of persistence in prayer. We are called to persevere and not give up, trusting that God will answer our prayers in His perfect timing and according to His divine wisdom.

  • Remember, the promises in this verse are conditional upon aligning our prayers with God’s will and seeking Him wholeheartedly. God desires a relationship with us, and through prayer, we can experience His love, guidance, and provision in our lives.

May this Bible study on Matthew 7:8 encourage you to deepen your prayer life and seek God with all your heart.
