And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the Maiestie of the Name of the Lord his God, and they shall abide: for now shall he be great vnto the ends of the earth. Micah 5:4 (KJV)

Micah was a prophet in the Old Testament, and the book of Micah contains prophecies regarding Israel’s future and the coming of the Messiah. In Micah 5:4 the prophet speaks of the future ruler of Israel.

The Promised Ruler: This verse is part of a prophecy concerning a future ruler who would come from Bethlehem, the birthplace of King David, and who would lead God’s people. Christians understand this ruler as the Messiah, ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

Strength and Majesty: The verse emphasizes that the future ruler would stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, underscoring his dependence on God’s power and authority, and that his authority derives from the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.

Abiding and Greatness: The passage states that the people will abide or be gathered securely under his leadership, signifying a time of peace, protection, and stability, and declares that he will be great unto the ends of the earth, indicating the universal scope of his dominion.

Application: As believers, we can find hope and assurance in this prophecy. It reminds us of the faithfulness of God in fulfilling His promises and points us to Jesus Christ as the ultimate fulfillment of this messianic hope. We can trust in His strength and majesty, finding security and peace in His leadership. This verse encourages us to place our trust in the Messiah and to recognize His authority over all the earth.

In conclusion, Micah 5:4 is a powerful prophecy that points to Jesus Christ as the promised ruler who brings salvation, exercises God’s strength and majesty, and establishes peace and greatness. It reminds us of the trustworthy nature of God’s promises and invites us to submit to the authority of Jesus Christ in our lives.
