And they iourneyed from Rissah, and pitched in Kehelathah. Numbers 33:22 (KJV)

The book of Numbers records the Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, and chapter 33 provides a detailed itinerary of their wilderness wanderings. Verse 22 marks one of the many encampments that punctuated their long trek toward the land God had promised.

After the exodus, Moses led the people through the desert, stopping at numerous locations where they set up camp and rested. Each stop was a moment of dependence on God’s guidance and provision, and the record of these stations underscores the orderly movement of a people under divine direction.

Rissah was one of those stations. The biblical text gives no further description of its character or significance, leaving us with only the knowledge that it served as a temporary dwelling place for the Israelites during their journey.

From Rissah the community moved on to Kehelathah. Like Rissah, Kehelathah is mentioned only briefly; its name’s meaning is unclear and historical details are scarce. The brevity of the record reminds us that not every place in God’s plan is meant to be fully explained, yet each played a role in the larger narrative.

The passage yields several timeless lessons. First, it highlights God’s faithfulness in the journey. Throughout the wilderness wanderings, God remained true to His promise to bring His people to a land of inheritance, demonstrating that He can be trusted even when the road ahead is uncertain.

Second, the verse underscores the importance of obedience to God’s leading. The Israelites moved and pitched their tents according to divine instruction, modeling the need for believers today to listen attentively to God’s voice and follow His direction without hesitation.

Third, the account points to trusting God’s provision. At each encampment the people relied on God for food, water, and shelter, reminding us that every season of life offers an opportunity to depend on His daily care.

Although Numbers 33:22 provides limited geographical detail, it serves as a concise reminder of God’s steadfast faithfulness, the call to obediently follow His guidance, and the necessity of trusting Him for provision throughout our own life journeys.
