Numbers 34:9

Listen to this article

“And the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Hazar-enan: this shall be your north border.”

Context:In this verse, God is speaking to Moses and providing instructions for dividing the land of Canaan among the tribes of Israel. This particular verse focuses on defining the northern border of the land. The border begins at a place called Ziphron, which is believed to be a location somewhere in modern-day Lebanon. From Ziphron, the border extends to Hazarenan, which is likely located near the city of Aleppo in present-day Syria. Hazarenan served as one of the landmarks on the northern boundary of the promised land.

It’s important to note that this verse is part of a larger passage in Numbers 34 (verses 1-15), where God describes the boundaries of the land that He promised to give to the Israelites. The specific details of these borders were crucial for the equitable distribution of the land among the twelve tribes of Israel.

This passage demonstrates God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promise to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It also highlights the meticulous planning and attention to detail that God displayed in ensuring that each tribe received its allotted portion of the land. By studying and understanding these geographical details, we can appreciate the historical context and the significance of God’s covenant with His people.

Additionally, this passage can serve as a reminder of God’s sovereignty, His commitment to His promises, and His concern for the equitable division of resources among His people.
