Numbers Chapter 10

Summery

Numbers 10 details the instructions given to the Israelites regarding the use of two silver trumpets. These trumpets were to be used for various purposes, including summoning the congregation and signaling the movement of the camp. The Lord commanded Moses to make the trumpets and designated specific signals for different circumstances, such as calling the leaders or preparing for battle.

As the Israelites continued their journey from Mount Sinai, the cloud of the Lord lifted from the tabernacle, signaling their departure. The tribe of Judah took the lead, followed by the other tribes, as they traveled to the wilderness of Paran.

In the midst of their journey, Moses pleaded with his father-in-law, Hobab, to accompany them and act as a guide, offering him a share of the blessings they would receive in the Promised Land. Hobab initially declined but eventually agreed to join them.

The chapter concludes with Moses using the words “Rise up, Lord, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee” as a signal for the Israelites to set out on their journey and a prayer for God’s protection.
