Proverbs 10:9

Posted on 18 May at 15:10

“He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.”

He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known. Proverbs 10:9 (KJV) This verse is part of the Book of Proverbs, a collection of wisdom literature in the Old Testament attributed to King Solomon. Proverbs provides practical guidance for living a righteous and wise life, and this particular verse highlights the importance of integrity and the consequences of dishonesty.

Walking Uprightly:The verse begins by stating that “he that walketh uprightly walketh surely.” To “walk uprightly” implies living with integrity, honesty, and righteousness. It speaks to the way we conduct our lives, our behaviour, and our actions. Walking surely suggests that a person who lives with integrity and righteousness can have confidence in their path, knowing that they are aligned with God’s will.

Integrity and Character:The emphasis on walking uprightly highlights the significance of personal integrity and character. It encourages believers to prioritise honesty, sincerity, and moral uprightness in their dealings with others and in their daily lives. It reminds us that living with integrity is a reflection of our relationship with God and can lead to a sense of security and peace.

The Consequences of Perversion:The second part of the verse states, “but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.” Here, “perverteth” refers to those who distort or twist their ways, engaging in dishonest or deceitful practices. This warns against acting in a manner contrary to God’s principles. The phrase “shall be known” suggests that the true nature of such individuals will eventually be exposed or revealed. While they may attempt to conceal their actions, their deceptive ways will not go unnoticed or without consequence.
