Proverbs 14:29

Posted on 18 May at 15:10
Listen to this article

“He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.”

Controlling Wrath:The verse begins by emphasizing the value of being “slow to wrath.” It cautions against quick-temperedness and impulsive anger. This implies that those who are able to control their anger and respond with patience exhibit a higher level of understanding and wisdom.

Great Understanding:The proverb associates being “slow to wrath” with “great understanding.” This connection suggests that individuals who exercise self-control and manage their anger are more likely to possess discernment, insight, and wisdom. They have the ability to think rationally and make wise decisions rather than being driven by impulsive emotions.

Hasty of Spirit and Folly:The second part of the verse provides a contrast by stating that those who are “hasty of spirit exalteth folly.” It warns against being quick-tempered and impulsive in nature. Such behaviour leads to foolishness and the exaltation of folly, suggesting that hasty actions can result in unwise decisions and negative consequences.
