“None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.”

Proverbs 2:19 (KJV) says:

“None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.”

Context:Proverbs is a book of wisdom literature found in the Old Testament. It consists of various sayings and instructions attributed to King Solomon and other wise men. The book offers practical guidance for living a righteous and fulfilling life.

The passage:Proverbs 2:19 is part of a section in which Solomon warns against the seductive allure of an immoral woman or the “strange woman.” This verse speaks about the consequences of being enticed by her and emphasizes the permanent nature of those consequences.

Symbolic interpretation:The “strange woman” mentioned here is symbolic of any form of temptation or sin that leads people away from the paths of righteousness and godly living. It could represent both literal immorality and metaphorical enticements that draw people away from God’s ways.

The consequences:The verse states that “None that go unto her return again.” This implies that once someone is entangled in the web of sin or temptation, it becomes challenging to break free and return to a life of righteousness on their own. It serves as a warning against the destructive power of sin, emphasizing the need for wisdom and discernment to avoid such pitfalls.

Paths of life:The latter part of the verse says that those who succumb to temptation do not “take they hold of the paths of life.” This suggests that by giving in to sinful desires, individuals forfeit the abundant life and blessings that come from walking in God’s ways. It highlights the importance of choosing the paths of righteousness, which lead to spiritual growth, blessings, and a fulfilled life.

Application:Proverbs 2:19 encourages us to exercise caution and discernment in our choices and associations. It warns against allowing ourselves to be drawn away by temptations or sinful influences, emphasizing the difficulty of extricating oneself from their grip. By staying committed to the paths of righteousness, we can experience the fullness of life and the blessings that come from following God’s ways.
