My sonne, giue me thine heart, and let thine eyes obserue my wayes. Proverbs 23:26 (KJV)

The book of Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings and instructions attributed primarily to King Solomon. Its verses give practical advice on wisdom, discipline, relationships, and morality. Proverbs 23:26 belongs to a section where Solomon offers guidance to his son, urging him to seek wisdom and understanding.

Addressing God’s Call: In this verse God speaks through Solomon, addressing his literal son while also speaking to all believers as children of God. The passage reveals God’s desire for a personal and intimate relationship with His children, calling each of us to give Him our hearts.

Surrendering the Heart: The heart symbolizes the core of our being—the seat of emotions, desires, and intentions. God wants His children to willingly offer their hearts to Him, surrendering personal ambitions and plans so they align with His will. This invitation calls us to love and serve God wholeheartedly, recognizing Him as our ultimate authority.

Observing God’s Ways: Once we have given our hearts to God, we are called to observe His ways. This means carefully watching and imitating His character, actions, and teachings. By studying Scripture we come to understand God’s principles, values, and commandments, and we seek to apply them in daily life. Observing God’s ways leads to wisdom, discernment, and spiritual growth.

Inviting God into Our Hearts: When resistance or lukewarmness arises, we can pray and invite God to transform us. We ask for His help to surrender our will to His and for the strength to walk in obedience while observing His ways. Developing a deeper relationship with God requires intentional effort, prayer, and diligent study of His Word.

The Blessing of a Surrendered Heart: As we give our hearts to God and diligently observe His ways, we experience the blessings of a close relationship with Him. We gain wisdom, discernment, and guidance for life’s decisions, and we become vessels through which God’s love, grace, and truth flow to impact the world around us.
