Proverbs 6:25

Listen to this article

“Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.”

Introduction: This verse is part of a passage in Proverbs 6 where Solomon, the author of many of the Proverbs, addresses the issue of adultery and the dangers of being enticed by an immoral woman. Throughout the book of Proverbs, Solomon imparts wisdom to his readers, encouraging them to pursue righteousness and avoid the pitfalls of temptation.

In Proverbs 6:25, Solomon specifically warns against lusting after a woman’s beauty in one’s heart. This verse acknowledges the power of physical attractiveness and its potential to lead people astray. It addresses the internal desires and thoughts that can arise when one is captivated by someone’s appearance.

The phrase “neither let her take thee with her eyelids” highlights the seductive nature of a woman’s gaze or the use of her eyes to entice and manipulate. Solomon cautions against allowing oneself to be captivated by such gestures, as they can easily lead to sinful actions and moral compromise.

This verse serves as a reminder that it is important to guard one’s heart and mind against the allure of physical beauty when it tempts us to stray from a path of righteousness. It encourages individuals to exercise self-control and discernment in their interactions with others, particularly when faced with enticing or seductive situations.

Furthermore, this verse can be interpreted more broadly to caution against being enticed by any form of temptation that may lead one away from what is right and good. It encourages believers to remain steadfast in their commitment to moral and ethical principles, resisting the allure of worldly desires.
