“Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.”

Psalm 25:7 (KJV) says: “Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.”

Context: Psalm 25 is attributed to David, and it is a prayer or plea for God’s guidance and protection. The psalmist seeks divine assistance in times of trouble and asks God to teach and lead him in the ways of righteousness.

Acknowledging past sins: The verse begins with a request to God not to remember the sins of the psalmist’s youth or the transgressions committed in the past. It demonstrates humility and a desire for forgiveness. The psalmist acknowledges that they have made mistakes and sinned in their early years.

God’s mercy: The psalmist appeals to God’s mercy, understanding that it is by God’s graciousness that forgiveness and redemption are possible. The psalmist recognizes that they do not deserve forgiveness based on their own merit but instead relies on God’s loving-kindness and compassion.

Divine remembrance: The psalmist asks that God remembers them, not in terms of their past sins but in terms of God’s own mercy and goodness. The focus shifts from the psalmist’s shortcomings to God’s attributes of mercy and goodness. The psalmist desires to be seen and remembered by God, not based on their own actions, but based on God’s character and nature.
