Psalms Chapter 11

Summery

Psalm 11, written by King David, is a profound expression of trust in God's righteousness and sovereignty in the face of adversity. In this psalm, David confronts the counsel of his friends who encourage him to flee from his enemies. However, David remains steadfast in his conviction that God is his refuge and that He will bring justice upon the wicked.

David begins by affirming his trust in the Lord, stating that he takes refuge in Him and advises the righteous to do the same. He acknowledges that the foundations of society are shaken and asks, "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (verse 3). Despite the chaos and moral decay around him, David believes that God's throne is in heaven and His eyes observe and test the children of men.

Throughout the psalm, David emphasizes God's righteousness, stating that the Lord loves righteousness and the upright will behold His face. He declares that God will rain coals of fire upon the wicked, their portion being the cup of judgment and burning wind. David ends with a resounding affirmation of his trust in God's righteous character and His sovereign rule over all creation.
