Revelation 10:11

Posted on 18 May at 14:20

“And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.”

Context and Background:The book of Revelation is the last book of the New Testament and contains visions and prophecies given to the apostle John. It unveils the future events leading up to the second coming of Jesus Christ and the establishment of God’s eternal kingdom. Revelation 10:11 is part of a larger vision John receives from an angel, commonly referred to as the vision of the “mighty angel and the little book” (Revelation 10:1-11).

The Identity of the Speaker:In this verse, the speaker is the angel who is giving instructions to the apostle John. The identity of this angel is not explicitly mentioned in the text, but he is described as a “mighty angel” with a “little book” in his hand.

The Commission to Prophesy Again:The angel instructs John, saying, “Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.” This commission implies that John is to continue his prophetic ministry and proclaim God’s message to a wide audience. It is important to note that John had already been faithfully serving as an apostle and a prophet, but here he is given a specific charge to prophesy once more.

The Scope of the Prophecy:The instruction given to John indicates that his prophetic ministry will have a global impact. He is to prophesy “before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.” This suggests that his message will be heard and received by diverse groups of people from different backgrounds and regions.

The Implication for the Church:While the immediate context refers to John’s specific mission, there are broader implications for the church. The verse emphasizes the ongoing responsibility of the church and its members to share the Gospel and proclaim the truth of God’s Word to the world. It highlights the importance of evangelism and reaching out to people from different cultures, languages, and social positions.

Application for Believers Today:

  • Faithful Service:Like John, we are called to be faithful in our service to God. Regardless of our past accomplishments, we should always be open to new assignments and opportunities to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
  • Global Mission:The verse reminds us of the universal scope of the Gospel. We should have a burden for people from all nations and be willing to share God’s truth with diverse groups of people, irrespective of their cultural or linguistic backgrounds.
  • Courage and Endurance:The book of Revelation was written during a time of intense persecution for the early Christians. John’s commission to prophesy again implies that his mission was not without challenges. Similarly, we may face opposition or difficulties in our own service to God, but we are called to persevere and remain steadfast in our commitment to the truth.

In summary, Revelation 10:11 is a powerful reminder of the ongoing responsibility of believers to faithfully proclaim the Gospel to all people. It encourages us to be diligent in our service, reach out to diverse audiences, and remain steadfast in the face of challenges.
