Revelation 11:9
And they of the people, and kinreds, and tongues, and nations, shal see their dead bodies three dayes and an halfe, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graues. Revelation 11:9 (KJV)
“And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and a half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.” This verse is part of the description of the two witnesses mentioned in Revelation 11:3-13. The two witnesses are individuals who are granted authority by God to prophesy and perform miracles during the end times. They are referred to as the “two olive trees” and the “two candlesticks” in Revelation 11:4, symbolizing their anointing and role as God’s witnesses. In Revelation 11:9, it describes how people from various backgrounds—people, kindreds, tongues, and nations—will witness the dead bodies of the two witnesses for a period of three and a half days. This imagery suggests a public display of their bodies, possibly as a sign of triumph and mockery by their enemies. The refusal to allow their dead bodies to be put in graves highlights the contempt and disrespect shown towards the two witnesses. Denying them a proper burial was a significant dishonor in ancient Jewish culture, as it was seen as a way to desecrate and shame the deceased. This act reflects the hostility and opposition faced by the witnesses during their ministry. Continuing in Revelation 11:11-12 (KJV), it says: “And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.” This resurrection of the witnesses after three and a half days signifies the triumph of God’s truth over the forces of opposition. It is a powerful display of God’s authority and the vindication of His faithful witnesses. The witnesses are called up to heaven, symbolizing their victory and elevation in the presence of God. Overall, Revelation 11:9 highlights the hostility faced by God’s witnesses, their temporary defeat, and the subsequent triumphant vindication. It serves as a reminder that, even in the face of adversity, God’s truth will prevail and His faithful witnesses will ultimately be exalted.
